when creating?
Personally, it's my small pair of Fiskar's embroidery scissors. The blade is actually a tiny bit curved and they're very pointy which is great for getting in close to threads and for grading seams.
The other is my Ezy-Hem. I'd never head of Ezy-Hem until I moved to the US. Previously, I'd measured, marked, pinned and ironed. This little gem of a tool is such a timesaver... fold your hem fabric over to the desired measurement (it's able to both straight and curved hems), iron and sew. Bliss! Although I have learnt not to have the steam setting on on the iron - the steam hits the steel and burns the dickens out of your fingers!!
I also can't get by without my Mundial Dressmaker Shears. Such a dream to cut with.
What do you use that you can't do without when creating?
I'm not sure I really have a can't-live-without item, but I am so excited about those scissors. I'm going out tomorrow to find a pair!
ReplyDeleteThey're fantastic Michelle. You will totally enjoy using them :)
ReplyDeleteMy big table and a drawing book & I wish I didn't have to say my quick-unpick.
ReplyDeletewhen im making books, i cant live without my bone folder. for my maps, its google maps haha. plus markers and hot chocolate.
ReplyDeleteI love my quick-unpick (seam ripper) too. I didn't realise Quik-Unpick was a brand name until I moved here. They've never heard that here. I have 3-4 around the sewing room along with 3-4 tape measures but I can never find one when I want one!
ReplyDeleteCoffee! I forgot the coffee! :)
Sharp scissors of course and my trusty, never been without one, sewing machine :)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! The sharper the better and I also can't believe I did without my serger/overlocker for so long!
ReplyDeleteMy thimble. My grandmother taught me to sew and she forced me to learn to use a thimble when doing hand sewing. It's a life saver for my fingertips when hemming!

ReplyDeleteAre we related? My Mother insisted I learn to use a thimble too. Most of the time, I don't use one but there are times when I wish I had...
I have so many 'can't do with outs'. Of course my sewing machines, good scissors,
ReplyDeleteFast Turn (tube turner), I also like the Ezy-hem, rotary cutter and mat and I'm sure there's lots more!
As a papermaker, I can't do without my blender, drill and paintmixer, mould and deckle screens....That's just for starters.

ReplyDeleteFast Turn? I have a tube turner but I don't know what brand it is. I'm sure they're all the same - they just changed the names.

ReplyDeleteHow awesome... a blender! After you've made paper, you could make a margarita :)
